OK - so I am no longer going to put this off waiting for time to post pics etc. Lately all you (Madison) have been asking for are stories from when you were a baby...and it turns out...they are hard to remember. I have to refer back to this blog...which makes me realize, I may never be able to tell Janie Poo any stories because I have slacked and not written for so long. So this will be my journal for a while. I am just going to pop in and drop random thoughts and stories just so we have it covered somewhere.
Most recently, we went on a trip to Seattle. We drove up and stayed in a hotel on the way, then met Crista to stay in a cabin for 4 days. It was an amazing trip. You guys both did great in the car, even when we got stuck for 2 hours in the canyon for an accident. Madi, you wanted to play "headbandz" on the ipad the whole time, and Janie just wanted anything on the ipad. YOu two are addicts. I have to pretend they are "in the shop" sometimes to get you guys on the wagon and off the ipads.
Crista and I went to the Seahawks game, and you girls went with Dad to watch the game at the Schindlers. He said you were good girls, and he was so proud to show you off. The next three days we just hung at the cabin. Madi, you wanted to play uno all the time, and you were pretty good at it. You are not the best looser...but we are working on that. Janie, you loved being with Crista. Even morning you would go up to her bed adn watch shows on her computer. In the day, we beachcombed around, visiting a lighthouse, and walking in the rain. I want to live up there so bad.
The way home was a bit more rough. We took the long way so that we coudl meet baby Sophia,,extending our drive to 15 hours. We got home at 2 am...and then mommy had to get up at 6:30 to go run a half marathon (which I came in 3 for my age group :)
Couple quick cute things you guys have been doing. Madi, you LOVE christmas. You are SOOOOO excited everyday to wake up to find out where our Monkey elf is hiding. You love to move the candy cane advent calendar, adn tell me what you want for Christmas....this year, that is AMERICAN GIRL doll....you had to pick the most expensive thing :) We battled long and hard about not getting Caroline, becuase her hair is hard to comb.We will see what happens on Chrismas. Janie, you still love juice. We got you off the sippy cups to big girl cups after your first trip to the dentist. He said your teeth are on the verge of big problemos..and you gave up the cup willingly. but now you are willing to stop everything, and go sit at the counter so you can have a big girl cup with juice. You have somehow never clued into the fact that you are drinking 80% water with a splash of juice. You are also into scooby doo right now, and you keep asking for a barbie...thought I am not sure you really even know what that is. Spoiler alert...you wont be getting one for Christmas. You can thank your Aunt Emily for that :_
OK - have to stop and work...maybe more later. Love you girls with all my heart!

What you're up to now...
Obviously I am NOT going to get good about updating this blog. I had some big plans to fill in a year of missing stuff...and ended up missing almost another year.
So just a quick post now to catch up on some of the cute things both my girls are up to. First of all girls, you are growing up WAY to fast.
Madi, you are getting to smart for your own good. You are pretty sassy :) Which is good and bad. You did pick on sissy a bit, and sometimes like to sneak in a little kick or hair pull when mommy isnt looking :) I guess you are just passing on how Daddy picks on you.
Emily Janey, you aer a baba addict. I dont know when it happened, but somehow in the last 3 months you became totally addicted to your juicy baba. As soon as you wake up from a nap you start pointing towrard the kitchen and chanting baba..juicy over and over and over again until you get a juicy baba. I am sure that by the time you can read this...alll of your baby teeth have rotted out of your head. If I were a better mother, I woudl end the juicy baba problem, but I CANNNOT stand to hear you cry. Either of you...which is going to be a problem as you get older.
You are both little mermaids! Madi, your swimming skills continue to grow. You have always been amazing in he water. I have put you in dance, gymnastics, soccer, but where I think we need to shift focus is to yoru swimming. YOu want to be in teh pool all summer, and you dive across the pool to search for dolly's you have thrown around. I am amazing with how fast you swim, and how long you can stay under the water. You cant really even touch the ground, but you are always trying to do handstands, backflips of the ladder, and can go for hours in the pool.
Jane, you are showing sure signs that you are goingto be the same way. When we first started putting you in the pool with just yoru floaty belt, you didnt want us to let-go. Fast forward only a week, you are kicking and paddeling around that pool like nobody's business. You dunk your own head, blow bubbles, and kick bacvk and float around on your back. Amazing for my not even 2 year old.
It is CRAZY how time flies. Madi you are almost 5, and Jane almost 2. I technically will have no more babies soon, but you will both always be my babies. I love you both more than I can ever express.
What you are up to now......
Madi - the bedtime routine is still long, but getting a bit shorter than it used to be :) You still require book, prayer, now narrowed it down to one song (used to be 6), and then as I leave the door I have to tell you a story, and you haev to have me turn the light on so you can show me with your fingers and toes how much you love me. You say "how much did I love you last night" I tell you, and then you count down, each night showing me less fingers and toes, but I know that you are really telling me more. It is like a countdown to you make it better. Example....we always count the number of sleeps until something exciting, and it gets lesss as the event gets closer. So that is why I think the fingers and toes of love decline ).
Then you have to say "goodnight and I love you, happy Christmas, happy valentines, happy easter, happy memorials day" and I have to repeat that back to you. if I mess up the order, I have to do it again. As holidays keep coming up, you keep adding them to the list. You had put in Mothers and faterhs day, but I convinced you that was enough :) Too cute.
You love to draw, play on your ipad, watch my little ponies on netflix, play with Tildy, wear dressup dresses, put on makeup, practice your writting, play under the stairs in your little secret fort, have picnics, and most of all, play with your friends and cousins. YOu are Uber loving.
Janie Poo (as we most frequently call you). You are as we speak yelling out "mama" at the top of your lungs. You do it ALL day long while I am working and It is hard to focus. I want to come up and hold you and play with you sooooo badly. You are just about as addicted to me as you are to your baba. I love it!! You are starting to talk so much, and will usually repeat anything we ask you too...as long as it is under 5 words. You LOVE to dance, do sumersaults, and you are a crazy dare devil., You climb up on everything, but worst of all, the kitchen counter. We have saved you from putting your feet in the garbage disposal and turning it on more than once. In fact, it is disabled right now for just that reason. You climb on stuff and balance and yell "tada". I swear, you are going to be gymnist or circus performer.
You are NOT great in the car, you bore easily. We almost always take the truck becuase you demand a "show" as soon as we get in any car. YOu are slightly spoiled, so we usually take the trcuk so you can watch a movie while we drive. We are about to do a 13 hour flight to Nova Scotia...not looking forawd to it. You do not like to be help in one spot for long.
I am trying to grow out your bangs, and putting in a clip constandly becuaes you keep pulling it out. So most of the time, you are walking around with hair in your face. Grandma really wants to trim it. You can clips and elastics"pretties" so I ask you nto to touch the pretty, but you do seconds after I walIk away.
You want to take a bath all the time. Usually when I change your diaper and you are naked you are reminded of this and start chanting "bath". You want a bath in the sink...and I almost always give in.
I have been working so much over this past 7 months on my Pcard project, and it has made me feel like a terrible mother. I have had to have people come watch you at night, I barely see you in the day, and I am tired and groucy when I get off work. For that I will be forever sorry. YOu two are the best things in my life, adn I want so badly to raise you to be happy, confident women. I hope that I am showing you perserverence, determination, and a drive to provide for your family. At the end of the day, I am doing this to give you Disney, dresses, college, etc...But I struggle wtih the cost at which those items come. I hope at some point I find the right balance.
I hope to read more with Madi, to play more with Jane; I will keep trying to be the best mother I can be.
Pleaes know how very much I LOVE you both. You are my world, my happiness; and I have told myself to start measuing the sucess of my day on how much I make you both laugh.
Love you forever and always. Hopefully, more stories and pics coming shortly. One step at a time! xoxo

FINALLY!!!
So - apparently it takes your mommy 13 months to get her brain back after baby number 2. I think about updating this blog almost daily. As the days went by, over this past year, it was like something I felt guilty about and couldn't face. So enough! I am back and ready to start journaling all of the WONDERFUL things that have happened to our family over the past year...and what is to come.
First and foremost - WELCOME Emily Jane!
On Sept 18th last year, we had to most beautiful, crooked nosed baby join our family. Mommy went into the hospital at about 10:30pm, and left you home with Aunt Fer Fer. The Dr. broke my water at about 12:30 am and 10 painful, scary, stressful hours later, little Janie was born. I was excited to give birth the "other" way this time, but truthfully...still not sure what I preferred. I liked the immediate gratification of the c-section, but the sheer will and determination it took to push Jane out was pretty gratifying too. Emily and Fer Fer were right in after Janie was born. Fer Fer brought you down. You weren't sure what to think at first. You just looked at your sister, held her for a minute, and then just started being your crazy curious self - checking out the hospital room, wanting the watch the TV, etc.

Jane - you gave us so much worry at the beginning of my pregnancy, and you weren't done yet. The Dr.s said you were totally healthy, but had a high white blood cell count that indicated you had some type of infection. they told us not to worry too much, but that you were going to have to stay in the hospital a little longer so they could give you intravenous antibiotics. So, Mommy got to stay her full 5 days in the hospital again. it wasn't quite as luxurious this time thought, because after day 3, they just let me have the room. No more room service or nurse care :) But they still brought you in to me at night, so I could nurse you (you were a natural). I feel blessed to have been able to stay with you.
But as I think any mother woudl tell you, the transition from one baby to two is hard. Emotionally more than anything. I felt so guity to be away from Madi. I cried most every day, and tried to get whoever was watching Madi to bring her down.
But then they would bring you down - and you would remind me...that maybe I did need my rest :)
We had one very special visit one day. It was from Grandpa Jack. He had been quite sick, and in pain from something wrong with his shoulder. Even with all his pain, his thoughts were of Jane. he was worried about her infection, and brought his neighbor to the hospital to give you a blessing. It was very special, and I am so glad he was able to do that . It must have worked, because you went home two days later.
When Jane got the all clear, Daddy came and picked us up. When we got home, Grandma and Grandpa were here to greet us. They were babysitting you. You kept trying to touch baby sister.

First night was rough, but I think still a little easier than the first time. Janie, you were a pretty good baby, got on a schedule quickly, and before long, you were giving me good 3 hour sleep sessions in between feedings.

I was very lucky to have a helper over the next 6 weeks off work. I had Jim helping with Madi and Tildy, and I was able to sleep in most mornings, and take naps with Janie throughout the day. Thank goodness. I so enjoyed my time off.
Nobody knew what to call you for the next few months."Is her name Emily, Emily Jane, Jane??", we always tell people it is any of the above. Some days we call you Emily Jane, others just Jane. For at least the first 6 months, Madi called you nothing but Emily Jane. So sweet.
I think this is good for now. I plan to post an update for each month following Janies birth and then will do my best to keep updating going forward. We shall see :) I am a great procrastinator. Hope you gals don't get that trait :)
Up until now Madi, I have been writing as thought I was talking directly to you. Hopefully you don't mind sharing these conversations now with your sister. I thought a lot about renaming the site, but the good news is that really...you are both MJ Mangrums...Janie is just Em J :) So I think the name still fits. I may have to add a pic to your heading baby pic though :)
FYI - Madi, right before Jane was born, we took you to the State Fair. Mommy was very pregnant and had a hard time getting around. But we were trying to inspire Jane out...by walking around. You had a blast. thought I'd post a few last pics of you as an only child.
I am so lucky to have you both in my life. You both continuously FORCE me to try and be a better person, make the rigth choices, work hard, and learn patience. For that I am forever grateful. Love you both forever and always xoxoxox Mama

Happy Birthday Mommy
So today is my birthday, and the first thing I want to do to celebrate is make time to update your blog. Seems like just 10 mins of downtime is something I have to wait for my birthday for these days.
We have been very busy lately, and you and I have been spending lots of time on our own. Daddy has been in high demand, working around the clock doing his regular job and tons of side jobs. He has spent the last few weekends building a fence at Jessica and Steve's house. He finally finished on Saturday night, and we had the most fun day with Daddy yesterday. He was home all day!!!

You and Daddy were being naughty best friends. Mommy would try to get you to go on the potty, and tell you that you could have a princess vitamin if you finished...but instead I would find you off the potty eating candy with Daddy. You guys even put on matching beanie hats and were sliding down the stairs in a laundry basket. You LOVED spending time with your dad. When it was time for bed last night, you kept crying saying you needed to kiss him on the lips. Daddy had to come back about 5 times. He loved it.
For the last couple days he has been playing Little Mermaid with you by being King Triton. Daddy takes off his shirt, and puts a white baby blanket over his head for hair. He talks in a very kingly voice. You think he is so funny. He calls you Ariel, but you always remind him you are Madison Julia.
We are getting so close to bringing home your new sister. I can hardly wait. It is so hard to imagine another little Madison. I am sure she will be her own little combination of Daddy and I, but you are soooo perfect..it is hard to imagine a different outcome. We feel sooooo blessed to have you. You talk about the baby a lot, and how you are excited for her to sleep in her new room. It is so cute. You wanted to help Daddy do all the work. Here is a pic of you guys putting in the floors.

You are extremely smart, outgoing, and loving. You have to kiss everyone before they leave and you cry if you forget. You love to dance and have everyone watch you. Lately you have wanted to dress up like a ballerina and you tell me you are in dance class. You have taught yourself how to hold your feet together to look like a ballerina and you spin with your hands on your head. I don't know where you learned your moves. I am hoping to get you into dance class once you turn three.

You, Daddy and I went to see the Indigo Girls. It was such a fun concert. You were dancing and eating candy the whole time :)

You are a swimmer...officially. You can actualy swim on your own without your floaties. And you are only 2!!.. A couple weeks ago, Daddy went to Texas for the weekend to help Aunt Christine build an office in her new house. So you and I had a weekened alone. We got invited to go up and stay in a fancy condo up in Park City with, John, Lolo and the Floor Family. We went swimming with TJ, Alex and Sam Sam. You were using yoru lifejacket, but it stared hurting your neck so I took it off and had you on the shallow stairs. I turned around for one minute, and turned back adn you had jumped off the stairs and you were swimming out intot hte deep. I was nervous, but just watched. You struggled, but swam out, and then turned around and swam back. I was AMAZED.
Then Daddy and I got a hotel room for our anniversary. We missed you so much, that the next morning we went and picked you up early from Emily's and brought you down tot he hotel pool. You didn't have any floaties, and just swam from one end of the pool to another. People kept asking us how old you were becuase there were much bigger kids in life jackets still. You are going to be a swimmer for sure.

You get CRAZY in our home pool and wanted to be in it every day this summer. You were a little timid at first, but once you realized you were safe in yoru mermaid floaty swim suit, you had no fear. You love to climb up and down the ladder and jump off the top rung. You jump backwards, and sometimes hoold your hands together like you are going to dive. I have to watch you pretty close becuase you really have no fear in there. You also like to "make dinner" on the steps of the ladder. You sit on one step, and then pretend to cook dinner on the rung above. Then you make me come over and eat my spaghetti or carrots, burgers, you have everything at your restaurant.
You still have Jimmo as your nanny. You love him, but take advantage of his sweetness at times. You talk back quite a bit, and don't really like to listen to direction. Hopefully it is a terrible 2 thing that ends right when you turn 3 :)
About a month ago, mommy got really bored one day and decided...why not go get Madi a haircut. it turned out to be the best decision ever. It turned out so cute. While we were waiting at the salon, daddy called to see where we are. I told him we were at the hairdresser...he was like"
WITHOUT ME??" I didn't think it was something Daddy would want to do. But he said to wait, and he sped over so he could watch. He loves you too much.
Here are some before and after pics. Everyone tells us how cute it is on you. You are almost ready for another trim.

You had lots of visits with your cousins this summer. We had everyone here for Grandma and Grandpa's 50th wedding anniversary. You had a blast. Then we had Will come sleep over, and your cousins Zianna, Moriah and Mallory here for a second visit later in the summer. They loved playing with you. You guys put on a play of the three little bears in the playhouse. Jen was the main star and director.

You have had tons of time with your Burchett cousins too. Her is a pic of a sleepover you had with Mary. This was your first night in your big girl bed.

You and Daddy and I stayed up in Park City one night with Jen because she had a work party up there. We had a really fun night. We went swimming, and went to main street to have dinner. You were supposed to sleep in Jen';s bed with her, but you wanted to snuggle with Mommy and Daddy. By the morning, Mommy was in Jen's bed because you and daddy were taking up too much room :)

Here are just a few other fun shots. The carebear outfit was from Melissa. The princess dress is one that mommy made you (with lots of help from jessica) and the next two pics are just you being you. Eating in your chair making a mess, and playing in blankets on the floor.

Since the baby is coming any day, it may be a while until I get to update your blog. I want you to know how very special you are to me. My life began when I had you. You are my greatest joy, accomplishment, and best friend. I love you SOOOOOOOO much and always will. I can't wait to see what a great big sister you are going to be. I know you will be the best becuase you are the best at everything.
Love you forever and always xoxoxoxoxox Mama
p.s. - now when you go to bed, I have to sing love you forever with daddy, then I have to sing Baby Mine, Skinnamarinki dinki dink, and Daisy 2 before I can close the door. then you say Goodnight Mama and you go to bed. Such a good girl. I still almost always cry when I sing baby mine. I am soooo blessed.

A Few Pics From Camping
First time to Strawberry (which you loved saying). First one is you an Gunes waiting to GO ALREADY :), then you and Fer Fer right before you fell asleep in the fishing boat. Then you snuggled with Daddy for a little nap.

Daddy caught a big one :)

Gunes was teaching you how to roast a marshmallow and block the smoke from your eyes

The second trip to Strawberry was all about Gavin :) You guys both love to play together!

"Her feets and hands are in your belly"
Last night you told me that your baby sister had a dress on in my belly. And then you said
her feets and hands are in your belly". Too cute. I think you are starting to get that you are going to have a new baby to love here pretty soon. I am trying to cherish these last couple of months we have with just you, me and Daddy. We love you so much, and it is hard to imagine loving another baby as much as we love you. But I am pretty sure we will :)
Other ways you interact with your sister. You like to tickle my belly button, and you think you are tickling the baby. You like the baby to kick you, but here is the big secret...normally I just flex my tummy so you think she is doing it. You like to kick her sometimes too :( And jump on her quite a bit when Mommy is laying down.
Daddy started working on the baby's room yesterday, and you were a BIG helper. You kept going in and picking up the measuring tape and telling me you were working. Poor Daddy is stuck doing the majority of his own...but it is a labor of love.
You were kind of a handful to watch yesterday becuase daddy was working and I was trying to clean the house because Emily and the kids were coming over for a BBQ, swimming and guitar practice session. I went down the hallway and asked Daddy "where is the little beast".
You were in your room and right on Que, you yelled "the little beasts down here". We had a good laugh. Guess we need to stop lovingly referring to you as that...cause you knew who we meant.
I don't think I have written much about your new babysitter...but it is Jim! you call him Jimmo, and LOVE him. He plays with you all day, and is teaching you to be potty trained. Right now, you make it most of the day going pee pee on the potty. Every now and then you have a little accident, but you are getting it.

You still don't love going to bed in your new big bed. You are always asking me to "close the door a little bit", but when I do, you just come right out. Bama told me that maybe you didn't feel safe in there and that maybe you need some pillows around you so they were like the walls of yoru crib. Turns out she was right. Now Daddy and I read to you, say a prayer, sing "I love you forever" and then you ask me to build yoru fort. Every now and then you still cry at your door, but 9 out of 10 times, it works.
You have been camping a couple of times this summer and you love it. Last weekend we went with Dash, Matt, Kim, Jake, Gavin, Rachel, Jimmo, Jen & Gunes. It was really fun. You LOVED picking flowers, roasting marshmallows, watching movies in the tent trailer and chasing Gavin. Trust me, it wasn't a picnic for Mommy...but worth it. it is hard to keep up with a two year old with a 8 month old baby in your tummy :)
Lots more to tell, and pictures to post, but as usually...takes me forever to get anything on this blog. So I will post this for now. Love you forever and always.
Mama
Oh yeah - we did have one other MAJOR mishap last week. I remembered after I typed the word picture. I downloaded all of your videos and pictures to my external hard drive last week. I was watching some really cute videos of you that I wanted to show you. So I called you downstairs to look. When I turned my head for a minute, you knocked the hard-drive on the floor. Very long story short..it is $500-$1000 to get it fixed :) Not sure if it will be fixed before you turn 18. I found a good portion of your old photos...but I am afraid there may be some lost for good. Not cool :) My fault for not getting a closer eye on my busy little two-year-old.
